Profile

Born in Tokyo Japan. In 1967, he debut from Colombia records as lead vocalist of rock group "April fool". In 1969, he performed as member of original cast for Japan's first rock musical "Hair". In 1971, he released solo album as a singer & songwriter. Chu was selected in number two positions for popularity vote for a best rock vocalist. His original style had made a huge impact to the Japanese music industry. His hit album "HORO" has influenced many artists and many music fans till this day support it. In 1975, the miraculous event took place, which his only daughter was healed from massive burn, that lead him to accepted Christ as his savior. He made a decision to give his life to the Lord and started music ministry. In 1978, Japan's first gospel label Michtam Records was established. Chu has brought the new worship to the Japanese church music, which primary music was mostly Hymns, and taught many at the music seminar, which sent out numerous pastors and evangelists. The sensational out door worship event "Jericho Japan" started in 1987under his lead. In 1991, Chu was appointed as a pastor of Foursquare Akitsu Gospel Church where he was saved. He also was appointed as a national director for March for Jesus Japan in 1993. His love for the Christ and his beautiful songs of love had him invited to many different countries, such as Indonesia (Batu conference), Sweden, Finland, Korea, England (Spring Harvest) New Zealand and United States. He continues to serve the Lord with his music.


Chu Kosaka History

1948 Born in Tokyo.
1966 Rock Group "the Floral" is made.
1967 Debut from Colombia records. Tours with American band "the Monkeys".
1969 "April Fool" is made. Band member; Haruomi Hosono, Takashi Matsumoto etc.
1970 Played a role in rock musical "Hair".
1971 Released a solo album "Arigato" by Alfa record.
1972 Band "Four Joe Half" is made. Band member; Dr.Tatsuo Hayashi, Pf. Masataka Matsutoya, Eb. Tsugitoshi Goto, Sg.Hiroki Komazawa etc. After the release of "Motto Motto" the band splited.
1974 By the support of Hi Fi Set, solo album "Hazukashisoni" is released.
1975 Solo album "Horo" is released. Support musicians; Haruomi Hosono, Masataka Matsutoya, Shigeru Suzuki, Tatsuo Hayashi, Tatsuro Yamashita, Minako Yoshida, Akiko Yano etc. Toured 35 cities with the support musicians, which gave an impact in Japanese rock history. In October, through the accident of his only daughter accepted Jesus as his savior and became Christian.
1976 Produced by Mickey Curtis, released "Kosaka Chu Sings" from Trio records. His independent production Tora Music is established. TV theme song, commercial jingle, record produce, concerts, host of TV show etc, and he worked widely.
1977 Solo album Morning is released. Musicians; Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, Bread and Butter.
1978 Japan's first gospel music label "MICHTAM Records" is established, it has become the leader of Japan's Gospel. The "MICHTAM Deai no Concert tour" had started. This concert tour continued every year and more than 200 concerts were held at different cities throughout Japan.
1980 For the growth in Japanese church music, "MICHTAM Music Seminar" had started.
1982 Started duo with Makoto Iwabuchi. Released a first Duo Album, "Best Friend".
1985 "Utau Tabibito" (singing pilgrim) is released; recorded by Hollywood recording engineer Bill Schnee. Recording member; Steve Fox, Saki Kubota, Daisaku Kume etc. Held concerts in Hawaii with recording members.
1987 Released album "Gospel". Out door gospel conference "Jericho Japan" is held at Osaka Castle Outdoor Auditorium.
1989 Released "Beginning..."
1991 With Yukio Suzuki, made an accapella group. Accapella album "Voice" is released. "Jericho Japan 91" is held at Ariake Coliseum. Japan's first 1000 people choir is put together. Lead the worship to 8000 mass choirs. Appointed to be a pastor of Japan Four square gospel, Akitsu Gospel Church.
1993 Duo Album "God is Love" is released.
1994 Named the Accapella chorus group to "John Three 16", and "Voice of Mission Tour " is held.
1995 "Jericho Japan" is closed after holding seven continuous tours at seven major cities.
1997 After 20 years, release a solo album "Peace 3". Return to his solo carrier. Live tour with Peace 3 recording members.
1998 Worship Choir series 2 has begun. Released worship album "Celebrate". Held many chapel concerts.
1999 Lead the choir in worship album "New Millennium". From this album, Chu's original worship song "To All the World" is picked for the theme song for "2000th Christ Birth". In April, Chu was invited to Spring Harvest in England.
2000 Gospel Choir Contest, East & West (February); It's the event of AD2000=2000th Christ Birth's event. Appeared as a judge for the contest and the guest on Grand prix concert (November)
Millennium Child Charity Concert; Appeared on Charity concert for the street children at Mongol. Parade Harajyuku with many others as Global March for Jesus Worship leader. It started since 1993, as a national representative, this was the last March for Jesus. Lead the 1600 marchers for 4 kilometer and walked the course in the central area. The participants are from child to elders and it definitely was bright gospel music parade.
Lectured about Gospel Music at Japan Evangelize Conference. Four days from June 27th (tue), Japan Evangelism Conference at Okinawa was held. Chu had lectured the importance of up to date worship music addition to the traditional hymn. For 23 years, working for the innovation for the church music, wrote many worship songs are now begun to get the understandings from the entire Christian world in Japan.
Guest appearance at Groove Dynasty 2000. Joint live with Tin Pan become real. October 27th (Fri) at International Forum A hall. In March 2000, Tatuo Hayashi had invite Chu for the guest appearance. Since the "first and last tour" in 1975, the live with Tin Pan came true after 25 years. Most known number "kikansya" was performed along with Chu's new song. They will be making more songs that cross over the ages. The concert was aired on WOW WOW in December 3rd.
Guest appearance at Finland Maata Nakyvissa -festival. On November 18th and 19th, Gospel Music festival at Turk, Finland was held. This event that is the largest in Scandinavia had invited Chu as a gospel artist from Japan. Performed with Finland unit "Robinson Crew" who also supported Chu's album "peace 3". It's been three years since the last performance with Robinson Crew.
Guest appearance on Tin Pan concert in Tokyo. December 20th (Wed) at NHK Hall.
Appeared at Millennium "JOY" Christmas Concert. December 24th (Sun) at Tokorozawa Cube hall. Gospel Choir and Asiah performed as well.
2001 Preparing for Solo album after four years.
